Introduction

The Diploma in Computing provides a common first year for BSc in Business Information Technology and BSc in Computer Science. These are modern programmes which link computing to actual business environments. A strong emphasis is put on developing a strong computing foundation along with theoretical concepts and practical application of computing to areas typically found in industry.

Entry Criteria

2 passes in A Level/HSC
(At GCE A/L, a pass is considered E and above. HSSC pass is considered C and above.) OR

Attainment of a Level 4 qualification in a related field OR

Attainment of a Level 4 Foundation Study Programme approved for the specific Diploma programme

Upon successful completion of this programme students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of the design and development principles in the construction of software systems of varying complexity

  • Apply routine techniques, skills and tools necessary for computing practice to design, implement and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component or program to meet desired needs

  • Apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles and computer science theory in modelling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the trade-offs involved in design choices

  • Use creative thinking to analyse a problem and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solutions

  • Use a wide range of communication skills and specialized skills in the subject area to present ideas to informed audiences

  • Take initiative, independence and significant responsibilities in the area of information technology, in an ethical manner
